ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST – THE GREATEST BORN OF WOMEN (LUKE 7:28)
Abstract
A person of St. John the Baptist stands in the borderland of Old and New Testament. He called for conversion unwaveringly, i.e. living according to Torah. John has begun the way of Christian asceticism. An attempt of limitation of own needs became its primary indicator in order to open to God and clean the interpersonal relationships of paying too much attention to material reality. Nowadays, when passing judgment on human being is determined by his purchasing power, address of John is more topical.

THE ETERNAL LIFE WITH GOD AS THE ESSENCE OF HUMAN EXISTENCEIN THE TEACHING OF GREEK CATHOLIC CHURCH IN THE LIGHT OF THE PASTORAL LETTERS OF METROPOLITAN ARCHBISHOP ANDREY SHEPTYTSKY AND BISHOP HRYHORY KHOMYSHYN
Abstract
Although the period of the pastoral service of Metropolitan Archbishop Andrey Sheptytsky’s and bishop Hryhory Khomyshyn overlapped with the two world wars and complicated Polish-Ukrainian relations, they did not forget about the mission they were entrusted by God. The eternal salvation of their congregation was a goal above any earthly matters. “Sheptytsky did not write any theological treatises in which he would describe the meaning of life of all the redeemed in Heaven”. However, he did caution the worshippers against mortal sins which separated people from the sanctifying grace. He reminded the people that if they died in the state of mortal sin, they would be doomed to eternal damnation. Khomyshyn, in his pastoral letter
On the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth, presented his teachings about Heaven as a place of the ultimate happiness of angels and people. He taught that to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, one had to show charity to others, and that the Gates of Heaven closed against those who did not love other people.

AN OUTLINE HISTORY OF EASTERN CHURCHES
Abstract
The paper is a short review of the history of the Oriental Churches, starting with 12 Apostles up to the beginning of 21st century. Spread of Christian civilization of the East (Asia Minor, North Africa, Syria and Mesopotamia) took place earlier and was faster than it was in Europe. The centuries from 5th to 7th were the “golden age” of the Oriental Churches, but today’s radicalization of Islam and the wars in Iraq and Syria threaten the very existence of Christianity in the region. However, the mutual movement towards unity and reconciliation between Eastern and Werstern Churches provide some hope for the future.

Wokół problemów fundacji i niepowodzenia w rozwoju benedyktyńskiego klasztoru w Krzeszowie
AROUND PROBLEMS OF FOUNDATION AND FAILURES IN DEVELOPMENTOF THE BENEDICTINE MONASTERY IN KRZESZÓW
Summary
After several dozen years of Benedictine absence, they were brought to Silesia by Henry the Pious, who in the near unknown period tried to fund a new monastic center. After the death of the duke, the fundation of black monks was accomplished in Krzeszow by the widow, princess Anna, with the consent of her son Boleslaw. In this way, she fulfilled the task of introducing the young successor who first appeared in politics in 1239. The assignment made in 1242 by Anna and her son predicted the need to expand the monastery area by the monks brought from Opatowice in the Czech Kingdom. This act was meant to strengthen the authority of Duke Boleslaw in the church environment with the manifestation of his program of power. In addition it was a stepping stone to the continuation of his father’s relationship with the Czech king. As a result of the lack of location privileges and no interest of Prince Duke of Legnica the acts made in 1254 and 1256 did not allow for the development of the monastery which ultimately determined his retirement of Silesia in 1289.
